By default all myUSI Student blogs are created with a flag that keeps them from automatically being indexed by search engines. There are some pros and cons to this approach.

The Pros of Being Private

On the positive side, if someone wants to look at your blog they have to either know that you have a blog on myUSI Student or they have to go looking for it based on your myUSI user name or they have to follow a link to it that is posted somewhere else. This allows your blog to remain relatively private. Only those that know you, know about you, or follow external links pointing to your site will probably look at your blog.

This is by no means truly private (you are posting information to a publicly accessible website after all), but it is more private than having everything that you post indexed by search engines around the world. So, in effect, it is private by some degree.

It should be noted that we can’t guarantee that your content won’t be indexed. That really depends on the indexing programs used by search engines and whether or not they follow standard web conventions. You should take time to read the myUSI Student Privacy Policy, the myUSI Student Terms of Use and the USI Computer Use Policy for more information. Use of this service implies agreement with these policies.

Welcome to MyUSI Student

September 20th, 2007

Welcome to MyUSI Student, a new service offered at the University of Southern Indiana. MyUSI Student allows any student who has a MyUSI username and password (and you all do!) the ability to create their own blog. It’s a place for your to express yourself and we encourage you to do so!

We’ve already rolled out some really nice features. For example:

  • Choose from over 60 themes to make your blog unique.
  • Customize your blog quickly and easily with widgets.
  • Be social. Leave and respond to comments.

Over time, we want to roll out more to make MyUSI Student an exciting and interactive experience for the student body here at USI. So, feel free to login, create your own blog, and get started. You’ll find that it’s really easy to do and soon we will try to publish some tutorials and videos to show you how to use your new site to its fullest. When that happens, you’ll be able to find them both on MyUSI Media and the MyUSI Media Sandbox.

And, if you curious what we are planning to do with MyUSI, then you might want to follow the MyUSI Web Development Blog.

We hope you find MyUSI to be an engaging experience and we hope you decide to participate. With your help we will build a vibrant online community here at the University of Southern Indiana.
